Christmas may be over but here at Lake Point Recovery and Wellness, we started the new year with the gift of new opportunities. We are extremely honored to be the recipient of a generous Bezos Day 1 Families Fund leadership award — a grant from the Bezos Families Funds. This grant will help us continue to provide the gifts of shelter, early child education, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment that help stabilize, support, and empower individuals.

Addressing Barriers to Sobriety — Poverty and Homelessness

We are grateful to be able to do what we do here at Lake Point Recovery and Wellness to help individuals in Arkansas struggling with substance abuse, mental health issues, and homelessness. The reality is that running a state-of-the-art recovery center nestled in a picturesque lakeside location can be costly. Part of our mission is to be able to provide the same luxurious accommodations to our customers who have the means to pay for treatment as well as those who come to us destitute and impoverished. Only by the Grace of God and the generosity of others can we provide these services to those struggling with homelessness.

The Bezos Day 1 Grant allows us the funds to provide quality substance abuse treatment and funds to transition our clients into their own apartments. Our innovative program works to stabilize clients and help them gain the skills for long-term sobriety, find gainful employment in the community and transition out of homelessness. We are now able to address two of the major barriers to recovery that clients face after leaving rehab: poverty and homelessness.

Many clients complete rehab only to leave without a safe sober environment to go to. Therefore, clients often return to the unsafe living situation they came from. As Chris Abington, pastor of City Church, in Russellville, AR, says, "Cucumbers can't hang out with pickles." If you put a cucumber in a jar of pickles, it won't stay a cucumber for long. Likewise, if you place a newly recovered addict back in a place where everyone is still actively using drugs, they will rarely stay in recovery for long. This grant, along with our treatment programs like Specialized Women’s Services and Residential Treatment Programs, helps us to provide our clients with the best chance for a new start.
