Growing Strong Kristys Story Of Addiction Recovery
Get Help NowMarch celebrates Women’s History Month. The month of March is also historically associated with springtime and growth. That makes this the perfect time to celebrate one of our amazing success stories from Lake Point Recovery and Wellness’s Specialized Women’s Services program.
How Lake Point Recovery and Wellness’s Specialized Women’s Services Program Helped
Kristy said, “Before I went to Lake Point, I wasn’t the greatest mother in the world. I was neglecting my children, neglecting myself, hurting my mother, and hurting my boyfriend.” She decided she needed help, so she went to Lake Point Recovery and Wellness in August 2023. She said, “In recovery, I learned how to love myself, my children, and other family members once again.” Kristy completed seven and a half months of treatment, battling through her addiction. She quit smoking cigarettes, got the medicine she needed, and learned how to spend time with her children — without using drugs.
Recovery is much more than learning to quit addictions. Kristy said, “Lake Point Recovery helped me get a job where I am still working. They helped me get a two-bedroom apartment for me and my children. The staff and counselors were amazing; they helped me in so many ways. Because of Lake Point Recovery and Wellness, I am now the greatest mother I’ve ever been in my life, and my children love their new mommy.”
Kristy is proud that she can now hold down a job, pay her bills, go to work, and pick up her kids from school; all of this while remaining drug-free. She said, “I am 32 years old, and have never had a house or job of my own. I could never do anything without drugs. But now I am doing my very best, the best that I’ve ever done in my life, and that is all due to Lake Point Recovery and Wellness.”
How Specialized Women’s Services Helps the Whole Family
Kristy and her children have undergone a miraculous transformation. In August, her son, who has a learning disability, was non-verbal, unable to perform daily living activities, and struggled with attachment issues at the age of five. This caused the progression of his disability to decline. Her six-year-old daughter, due to the attention her brother was receiving, often fell through the cracks, leaving both neglected.
With the advocation of leadership to get her son into Pediatrics Plus expedited, as well as the help of the wonderful childcare program at Lake Point, her son is now very expressive. He can perform the necessary actions and activities and attend school independently. This allows Kristy to fulfill her duties as a mother and provide for each of her children equally. Her daughter now receives adequate attention from her mother and is acknowledged for her strength and accomplishments through this difficult time, at such a young age.
In seven short months, Kristy has taken back control over her life and shows no signs of stopping. Kristy, who began her recovery unsure and uncertain about the road ahead, due to the overwhelming presence of her addiction, now speaks about her plans to continue growing and looks forward to the future for herself, and her children.
While this is just the beginning of her journey, Kristy shows great promise. We at Lake Point commend Kristy for her drive and passion in not only her own recovery but for the recovery of her beautiful children. Kristy continues to work with Lake Point and ARVAC Inc. to aid in her continued recovery and to spread her impactful story with others to promote awareness of our mission; to enable individuals to live free of addiction by providing quality person-centered behavioral health services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
At Lake Point, we provide a variety of substance abuse recovery programs. If you or someone you love are struggling with addiction, please contact us.
